A few samplings from the past seven years, with some brief comments about them.
In Honour of a Brother & a Mentor
It's difficult to put into words just how much of an impact Jorge Mercado has had on my life. This is my paltry attempt to sum up a great Man of God. If I could be half the leader that Jorge was, I would be honoured.
Wormwood's Apprentices
I've often marvelled at the great lengths people will go to avoid actually speaking up and sharing their faith with others. At times, it seems almost diabolical in its predictable intensity. Plus, I've always loved C.S. Lewis' Screwtape Letters, and it was a lot of fun writing this one.
BAM! (thunk...) & Possum of Discernment
Having just recently seen Post-Charismatic released, I wasn't really wanting to delve into all the same stuff when Todd Bentley & the Lakeland Outpouring became the latest incarnation of Gullible's Travels in the world of charismania. And several other well-respected bloggers provided ample and well-researched posts. However, I couldn't just sit by and say nothing, but I managed to restrain myself with only these two articles.
Near/Far (21C worship wars in three parts)
Worship has always been part of who God made me to be. And it's been fascinating to watch the wild pendulum swings on this topic, from an austere, unemotional cognitive acknowledgment of Diety to an opposite extreme of what has been termed as "Jesus-is-my-boyfriend" sappy sentimentalism. Somwhere in the middle, there must be a good balance of reverencing a holy God and enjoying the intimacy of a loving Father.
