Detoxing Resources

Both during and after the detoxing joueney, it is both wise and helpful to hear from others who have been wrestling through similar things, and to hear their stories and glean insights from them.

This is by no means an exhaustive list -- I'd be linking from here to eternity -- but various bloggers have been creating excellent posts and resources which I think deserve special mention:

Blog Posts/Articles

Bill Kinnon writes a thought-provoking post, which precipitated a deluge of reflection and writing around greater blogdom, entitled The People Formerly Known As The Congregation. Bill also freely includes links to others' reactions -- both positive and critical -- to his post.

A long-time blogging friend, Emerging Grace, wrote a wonderful follow-up piece entitled The Underlying Issues, or The Penguins Formerly Known As The Waddle. Jamie Arpin-Ricci also chimed in with what Bill refers to as Part Three (he calls Emerging Grace's post Part Two), when Jamie wrote on The Community Coming To Be Known As Missional. More links to posts that were inspired by Bill Kinnon's original post can be found at Bill's linked blog article above.

Another blogging friend, Brother Maynard, eloquently stated his longings for authentic church community in his brilliant post To Clarify This Journey. Great stuff!

Website Resources

"In the era of "movements," missional is often looked upon as just another phase or program. But we error when we do so for missional is more than just another movement, it is a full expression of who the ekklesia of Christ is and what it is called to be and do. At its core, missional is a shift in thinking." (from Friend of Missional website)

Rick "The Blind Beggar" Meigs created a short but hugely impactful webpage called Friend of Missional, which is a sharply-focued catalyst for thinking and reflecting, while also broad enough to not be a "one size fits all" mantra. One of the best resources I've come across, period.

"Though Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, people’s questions change from generation to generation. Though the Gospel is unchanging, culture is changing, multicultural, and pluralistic... Missional Apologetics seeks to employ the best of apologetics from church history, but also engage principles that relate to our current age." (from Missional Apologetics website)

John "Smulospace" Smulo has created a great companion site to Friend of Missional with Missional Apologetics. John's work here is much-needed, and I appreciate his conversational approach to the ever-developing area of Missional Apologetics.

There are many other blogs and resources out there, and perhaps this list will need constant updating and revising, but for now, these are some of the ones that I have personally found to be the most gracious, challenging, insightful, and encouraging in the deconstruction and reconstruction thinking of the detoxing journey.
