New Teenager & Wierd Resemblances

As of today, our house now has TWO (count 'em, 2) teenagers under the roof. The Small Bear we welcomed into the world thirteen years ago is becoming a young man. Can you see any resemblance between he and I (I'll readily concede that he's more handsome)?
Speaking of resemblances...

Pernell Goodyear mentioned some time ago that he'd found some "facial recognition" software online, where you submit a photo, they scan it, and then tell you which celebrity you most resemble.

In high school, I got used to hearing people mistake me for Randolf Montooth, from the 70's TV show "Emergency". I didn't mind the comparison, as long as people didn't think either or both of us looked goofy.
So, I was kind of expecting that perhaps, just perhaps, this facial recognition software would predict the same result.

Imagine my surprise when I submitted the same picture as the one with my son at the top of the post -- the SAME PICTURE -- taken the very day I got 18 inches of hair trimmed off in what the lead singer of a former band of mine called my "failed attempt at respectability"...

I got Gene "Family Jewels" Simmons, from the rock band KISS. Now, if I'd submitted this pic of me screaming into a microphone in a Winnipeg bar, I could understand. But from the conservative "respectable" photo???
What's troubling is that the producer of a band I was in during the 90's (before the Celtic rock band), as we were recording our first CD, had me do the chorus vocals for one of our songs, and when I came back from the booth, he offhandedly remarked how much he enjoyed my "Gene Simmons vocal impersonation". See if you can hear what he means in this brief clip (hint: there's two voices singing, and I'm not the tenor).

Anyways, putting aside facial recognition software, random old recordings, and Gene Simmons (with or without the make-up), Happy Birthday, my wonderfully talented and handsome son! I sincerely hope, as you grow older, you never get mistaken for Gene Simmons.

But if you do, I guess you can blame me. I deeply apologize in advance.

Update: October 15

Neil McK. mentioned in the comments "You used to have the hair of Gene...". Here's video evidence of that fact. Think: black bass guitar, black curly hair. Or to make it even easier, I'm the guy on the right, who thankfully doesn't sing like Gene on this song.

Sweet tune, Robby.

Sure, you get Simmons and I get Elton John.

I hate you : )

Happy birthday to your son though.

Maybe a younger Gene Simmons?

Joan Collins here.
I am NOT that old!

As a mother of 4 teenagers, (18,16,14,14) I think it's been a lot of fun. Actually, I think it's been fun all along.

Happy Birthday to your Small Bear.

Happy Birthday C! How can he be a teenager?? Not when I used to haul him around when he was so tiny! How old am I?? sigh...You deserve to be proud though Rob. He's a very cool kid. Give him a hug for me.

The last time I say Small Bear is when Heath and I babysat him in Vic. It was after we were married, so he must have been almost a year old.

I would have to say that he does look like you, but, at the same time, I can really see Wendy in his facial features.

Rob, You used to have the hair of Gene...oh well. I don't have much hair left either.

Chow, Neil

Pernell,

Hey, sorry about the Elton John thing. Maybe it's the glasses? :)

Grace,

Did you sent them the picture of your feet? Maybe they're saying you have similar feet to Joan Collins?

Johan,

Gene Simmons is a bass player. Robbymac is a bass player. And JOHAN plays what? Come again? I can't hear you...

I forgot just HOW MUCH your hair really did look like Gene's!!

your last few posts really have me walking down memory lane. Seeing you in that video reminded my of Friday nights at Rock The City. i use to watch your left arm on the guitar to know where we were going next in the song. The only other thing i could see was that thick, black, main of yours.

Neil,

Those were crazy and awesome times together, my friend!

This particular video was only six years ago, at the tail end of a five-week tour with Andrew Smith. We toured in the Maritimes for three weeks (PEI is gorgeous), and then two on the west coast. Good times, as my pastoral buddy Dave-O at Church on the Rock loves to say.
