Taking A Break
![]() | In light of the reactions to my recent posts on missional and emerging, and following the same discussion at other blogs who have picked up on the topic, I think I'm going to take a break and rethink a few things. It may be a few hours, or days, or I don't know. Honestly, these past few days have felt a bit like George Orwell's classic book, Animal Farm; to paraphrase a famous quote from the book: "All voices in the conversation are equal, but some voices are more equal than others." |

Please don't take a long break. I don't post much on your site, but it is one I visit everyday along with Grace's. I found you from reading your article on post-charismatic in next-wave mag. I loved it so much and could relate. This was like 6 months ago I think. I have been reading everyday since then. I like what you have to say and keep saying it. God bless
Rob,
Do you remember in UXB when we would split the group in half and debate a topic or verse in the bible?
Nobody was wrong, nobody was right. The point is that we were discussing our beliefs and through that process, solidifying our beliefs in God.
Discussion is good, debate is good. Not everyone is going to believe the same things that you do. Some people are going to very strongly oppose to what you have to say. You are not responsible to them or for them and what they say.
The point is that God has you writing this blog for a reason. Simply put - people are discussing Him!!! That infers - to me at least - they are praying to Him, spending more time with Him. God tends to like that.
For all my online courses I have been taking, I have been in groups that have to post assignments together. I have learnt more from these five courses set up like this than all my other individual based courses put together. The reason is that there has been discussion, debate, and even heated arguments, but through that process I know that I learned more and understand more about the topics of those five courses.
Don't let a few nay-sayers discourage you. Like some else that posted, I too drive past your blog every day. Most of the time I do not post a comment, but I always find the topics interesting.
"Taking A Break"
It's really about the earrings, isn't it? :-)
Please don't take too long a break. There will always be people who disagree with whatever you have to say. As a pentecostal who is new to the emergent conversation, I have learned a great deal from your blog and your thoughtful writings.
Robby,
Thought your recent blog dialogue (blog-ologue?)was very interesting, and I applaude you for sharing your thoughts so bravely online.
I certainly hope your pause is more to catch your breath, and less to remain silent.
LOL at Cindy!
Robby,
There will always be those who believe they have the corner on the conversation.
I've said it before, we need to hear what you have to say. I'll be listening.
blogalogue - that's good hehehe...
Rob, I know the feeling oh so well. I've ended up in similar places often - although, frankly, I'm not really understanding what all the hoodah is about. What are people's panties in a pinch over anyway? Although, I never understood the Emerging craziness either. My INTJ response to all this - get over it people...or get a room. (slightly tongue in cheek, no nasty comments over at my blog please)
In the words of Twisted Sister:
if That's Your Best, Your Best Won't Do
Don't be too long. I love your blog.
By the way, did you not DIE at the end of CSI:Miama tonight? What were they thinking with the beach walk? AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
Hey Robbymac,
Don the kilt and let the bagpipes wail - this be not the time for breaks! At least give the critics what your ancestor William Wallace
and his band did in the Braveheart backside battle scene. Hey that would make a good picture for your blog profile - Robbymacs other side.
Butt seriously, at first I didn't get where you were coming from (being under-informed)- after reading around a bit it is clearer. Ultimately, your comments may provoke some digging into what one really believes regarding atonement theology, soteriology etc. - this is good. Also, I think that the atmosphere is different - amidst our variety we can maintain unity - we can differentiate without dividing. Enjoying your blog.
All the best.
