More Diving

Kingsway Publications, a publishing house in the UK, has just agreed to publish my Post-Charismatic project in book form.

I'll keep everyone posted as the process of getting the book ready for publication goes on, but best guess at present is a release in early 2007.

Okay, Rob - I'm going to post it here rather than send you an email. Before I say it though, let me be the first to congratulate you publicly (having done so privately already) on the book - way to go, this deserves publication, as I've told you since editing the first couple of sections.

Now, as an odd coincidence would put it, I was having a beer at the King's Head earlier this evening with your best friend. He told me that you write very well and should be a writer... and he didn't know about the book. For shame, man! Drop the guy an email (hit me offline as well).

I love the picture - whered u get it? I'm reading through the project at the moment, up to the part on the Latter Rain. Know a lot of it from sporadic internet surfing into teh realms of Pentecostal histry, but great to see it all gathered together into one document, through such an interesting lens...

I guess I have to accept I'm also post-charismatic, and "emergent", given the tolerance I have for various diverse manifestations of Christian thought and practice. and given the postmodern ecclesiological arrangement I've found myself in as a youth leader.

One of the biggest fears people like I have of the movement is just how relativist it is, given the disdain for terms like "absolute truth". Yet Emergents seem to have a real love for the creeds, church unity, paleo-orthodoxy etc...

But I do think it's best to submit to some sort of eccelsiological governance where possible, even if it means twice as much work and patience as it means blessing. The emergent Christian needs to learn how to live under the plural governance of God & man - in perfect submission to the Holy Spirit, and in patient submission to the governance manifest in man.

See, my use of the word man instead of humanity is a giveaway I'm not truly emergent. That and the fact my favourite preachers are guys like Spurgeon & Moody. Yet at the same time you'll see that they too were quite postmodern in their approach to ministry and relationship to church governance...

Anyway, I'm rambling now... Nice website, nice work, looking forward to the rest of the project...

Rob! That's so awesome, and very much deserved! Congratulations! I have far to much to say and way to many questions for you to post here, so I'll leave it at Congrats, and get hold of you by e-mail, or by phone, or perhaps another road trip is in order...

That is so exciting!!!! Congratulations! I wait with great anticipation so I can finally get everyone I know to read it (all my pastor people are fogies and very intimidated by the concept of an "online book" hehe). If your publisher does any kind of promo events, let me know, I'd love to be part of a blog tour.

Congratulations Rob,

I'm a british Christian blogger and found your work very insightful and helpful.

Interesting that Kingsway are publishing the project, since (during my brief time with the Newfrontiers churches) they were always the publishing house which were invited to attend the various Newfrontiers events/conferences.

Essentially much within your project undermines the self-conception that guys like Terry Virgo have created around themselves and so it's encouraging to see Kingsway working with you on this one!

All the best,

Richard

Thanks, everyone! The next few months should be REAL interesting, as I get to work with one of their editors to -- wait for it -- "edit" the book. While I know that this will make me a better writer in the long run, I'm guessing that there'll be a few lumps and bruises along the way!

OK, I know I'm late to the party on this, but congratulations. When I read it online, I knew this was something that needed to be done and I'm glad the project is getting another boost forward. As for the editing part...it may not be so painful.

Congratulations on your book deal! I came across Post-Charismatic about a month ago and read almost all of it in one night - didn't quite get it finished, so I'll have to wait. It was an engaging and informative read, delicately handled. I didn't realize the root of some of the things we take for granted in the charismatic movement - very interesting.

Blessings to you in your writing and your YWAM work (coming from a former YWAMer as well!).
